Recall: Can-Am Commander Side-by-side Off-road Vehicles

On 2013-01-10, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall regarding Can-Am Commander Side-by-side Off-road Vehicles due to a potential crash hazard. This product sold new beginning in April 2011 for about $11700 to $21000.

What is the problem?

Improper assembly of the steering column to the rack and pinion can result in the loss of steering control, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the user, passenger or bystanders.

How can I tell if I own this product?

This recall includes the following serial numbers of 2011 and 2012 Can-Am Commander side-by-side vehicles. The model name is printed on the vehicle's side panel. Models included in the recall are:

Can-Am Off-road Vehicles were also recalled on Jan. 29, 2013.

These items were sold new+ at Can-Am dealers nationwide from April 2011 through December 2012 for between $11,700 and $21,000.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact a BRP dealer to schedule a free repair. BRP has notified registered consumers directly about this recall.

Incidents & Injuries Reported as of Recall Date

The firm has received three reports of loss of steering. No injuries have been reported.
