Recall: Head USA Ski and Snowboard Helmets

On 2016-02-04, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall regarding Head USA Ski and Snowboard Helmets due to a potential hazard. This product sold new beginning in January 2015 for about $80 to $120.

This was the 1st recall of products in the Skiing/Snowboarding category in 2016. Since 2005, there have been approximately 20 similar recalls, involving about 300,000 product units.

What is the problem?

The helmets do not comply with the impact requirements of safety standards for helmets, posing a risk of head injury.

How can I tell if I own this product?

This recall involves six models of HEAD ski and snowboard helmets: Agent, Alia, Andor, Arise, Arosa and Avril. They were sold in sizes M/L and XL/XXL in black, blue, green white and yellow, with straps in a variety of colors. HEAD, the model name, size and "Production Code: Dec. 2014" are printed on stickers that can be found by lifting the lining above the right earpiece.

These items were sold new+ at Specialty ski and snowboard shops and online from January 2015 through December 2015 for between $80 and $120.

What should I do if I own this recalled product?

First, stop using the item.
