On 2006-02-07, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall regarding Husqvarna Viking Designer I Sewing and Embroidery Machines due to a potential fire & burn hazard. This product sold new beginning in January 1999 for about $5500.00 to $6000.00.

What is the problem?

Electrical arcing can occur in the machine's power supply, posing a risk of fire.

Instance(s) of fires, major property damage have been reported.

How can I tell if I own this product?

The Husqvarna Viking Designer I sewing and embroidering machines have white plastic exterior and contain the words Husqvarna Viking and Designer I.

These items were sold new+ at Independent sewing machine dealers nationwide from January 1999 through December 2004 for between $5,500 and $6,000.

What should I do if I own this recalled product?

First, stop using the item.

Incidents & Injuries Reported as of Recall Date

The firm reports three incidents of these machines overheating and catching fire. One incident resulted in extensive smoke damage to a consumer's home, and the other two incidents resulted in minor property damage.
