Recall: L.L. Bean Snowshoes and Snowshoe Packages

On 2017-03-07, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall regarding L.L. Bean Snowshoes and Snowshoe Packages due to a potential fall hazard. This product sold new beginning in November 2016 for about $170 to $200.

This was the 1st recall of products in the Skiing/Snowboarding category in 2017. Since 2005, there have been approximately 20 similar recalls, involving about 200,000 product units.

What is the problem?

The plastic material on the snowshoes can weaken and break during use, posing a fall hazard to users.

How can I tell if I own this product?

This recall involves the L.L. Bean Adventure Adjustable Snowshoes 25"-30" and L.L. Bean Adventure Adjustable Snowshoe Package 25"-30". The recalled snowshoes have an aluminum frame with Boa bindings and a deck made from polyethylene with "ADVENTURE ADJ 25-30" printed on the side and "L.L. Bean" printed on the front. They were sold in red (Carbon Chili) and blue (Glacier/Teal) and can be worn with men's or women's winter boots. The recalled snowshoe package includes the recalled snowshoes, adjustable snowshoe poles and a bag.

These items were sold new+ at L.L. Bean stores nationwide, L.L. Bean catalog and online at www.llbean.com from November 2016 through February 2017 for about $170 for the snowshoes and $200 for the snowshoe package.

Incidents & Injuries Reported as of Recall Date

The firm has received four reports of the plastic on the snowshoes cracking. No injuries have been reported.
