On 2016-12-16, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall regarding Portable Air Conditioners due to a potential Fire hazard. This product sold new beginning in February 2011 for about $250 to $280.

About 500,000 units are involved in this LG Electronics air conditioner recall. Instance(s) of fires, property damage have been reported. Learn more and find out what to do if you own this product below.

This was the 2nd recall of products in the Room Heaters & Air Conditioners category in 2016. Since 2005, there have been approximately 10 similar recalls, involving about 1 million product units.

What is the problem?

The portable air conditioners can overheat, posing a risk of fire.

Instance(s) of fires, property damage have been reported.

How can I tell if I own this product?

This recall involves three models of 7,000 and 8,000 BTU LG portable air conditioners including model numbers LP0711WNR (all serial numbers), LP0813WNR (all serial numbers), and LP0814WNR (only serial numbers beginning with 311, 312, 401, 402, 403, 404 and 405). The air conditioners are tan/white with the LG logo on the front. They measure about 30 inches tall, 12 inches wide and 14 inches deep and weigh 50 pounds. The model number is located on the product's left side panel.

These items were sold new+ at Home Depot and other stores nationwide from February 2011 through August 2016 for between $250 and $280.

First, stop using the item.

Incidents & Injuries Reported as of Recall Date

The firm has received four reports of fires that have caused $380,000 in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
