On 2013-01-16, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall regarding Powertec Weight Benches / Workbenches due to a potential injury hazard. This product sold new beginning in September 2011 for about $299 to $549.

What is the problem?
The weld on the backrest adjustment brackets of the weight workbench can break, posing an injury hazard to consumers.
Instance(s) of injuries have been reported.
How can I tell if I own this product?
The recalled workbenches are free-standing and typically used for free weight workouts. They have black, square tube, steel bases with a jet black, vinyl, adjustable bench seat and backrest. "Powertec" is embossed on the backrest pad and printed on a sticker located on the upright or the base frame of the workbench. Model names and numbers included in this recall are listed in the table below. The model name and number are located on the product's packaging.

These items were sold new+ at Specialty fitness stores nationwide and online at www.powertecfitness.com from September 2011 to May 2012 for between $299 and $549.
