Recall: Candlsense Warmers


On 2008-05-29, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall regarding Candlsense Warmers due to a potential fire & burn hazard. This product sold new beginning in August 2006 for about $5.00 to $10.00.

This was the 10th recall of products in the Candles, Holders, Firepots & Oil Lamps category in 2008. Since 2005, there have been approximately 90 similar recalls, involving about 12 million product units.

What is the problem?

The internal heating element of the candle warmer can detach and melt the bottom of its plastic casing, which can in turn ignite or scorch the surface on which the candle warmer is placed, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Instance(s) of injuries, fires, property damage have been reported.

How can I tell if I own this product?

This recall involves the Candlsense warmers with product codes ranging from YD0629 through YD0652 and YD0701 through YD0708. The candle warmers measure about 4 inches in diameter. The heating plate is black and the surrounding area is white plastic. "Provo Craft & Novelty Candle Warmer Air Freshener Model: WCY-8888" and the product code are embossed on the underside of the warmer.

These items were sold new+ at Wal-Mart and other retailers nationwide from August 2006 through October 2007 for between $5 and $10.

Incidents & Injuries Reported as of Recall Date

Provo Craft has received 11 reports of incidents in which the heating elements detached, including two fires and nine incidents of property scorching. One consumer reported a blistered finger.
