WeMakeItSafer is a high-tech, social venture that builds web applications for consumers, manufacturers and retailers to improve communication around product safety information and recalls.
The "We" in WeMakeItSafer means all of us - each doing his or her part to make the world a safer place. As a company, WeMakeItSafer's job is to build tools and services that make taking part easier.
Our mission is to dramatically reduce the number of product-related injuries, illnesses and deaths that occur each year worldwide. In so doing, we not only save lives, we help to build stronger, more socially responsible and financially stable companies.

Every year, thousands of children and adults suffer injury or death due to continued use of recalled products. Nearly all of those accidents could be prevented if product-owners simply knew about the recalls and what to do to fix the problem. Furthermore, preventing recalled-product related accidents means that the companies involved will incur lower costs and liability risk while mitigating damage to their brand and increasing their ability to successfully recover from the recall event.
In other words, by improving recall effectiveness we can save lives while building stronger, more socially responsible and financially stable companies. The founders of WeMakeItSafer decided to address problems with recall effectiveness by creating tools that, for the first time ever, bridge the gaps in information flow among consumers, manufacturers and sellers. As a communication hub, WeMakeItSafer delivers relevant product information to each of the stakeholders while maintaining their rights to privacy.
WeMakeItSafer's slogan is, "Together, we can make the world a safer place." We firmly believe that, if we stop pointing fingers and instead focus on sharing information - and building the tools needed to make that sharing possible in a secure environment - we can make the world a safer place, a place where we can be confident that the products we make, sell, buy and give away are free from unidentified, unintended risks.
Manufacturers do their best to ensure that the products they make and sell are safe, but despite their best efforts, mistakes can and do happen. In the event of a safety recall, manufacturers strive to communicate fully and do everything possible to retrieve or fix products already sold to consumers.
But how does one get a product back before it hurts someone when they don't even know who owns it?
Manufactures' options are limited. Mass media and social-network sharing, if used improperly, could even worsen the problem by creating information-overload and training consumers to ignore the constant barrage of mostly irrelevant safety alerts.
WeMakeItSafer cuts through the noise, delivering important information relevant to the products a consumer actually owns, so that manufacturers can rest easy knowing that their message will get through to those who need it without burdening those who don't. What if the information you relied on to make a purchase decision is no longer valid after the product is in your home? What if ingredients change between shopping trips, the environmental impact of the company morphs, or safety defects are discovered? This is the information that WeMakeItSafer strives to provide - automatically.
Beginning with product recalls, WeMakeItSafer will tell you if something you own is, or already was, recalled. Get started now by adding items to your free, completely private Items I Own account. Then, start looking for the WeMakeItSafer logo when shopping online or in resale shops. It is your signal that a product has been checked for recalls and can be added to your account for free, future recall alerts with just a few clicks.
Selling recalled products, including in yard-sales or classified ads, is now illegal, but even more than avoiding the business and financial risks that come with selling recalled products, resellers and marketplaces want to protect their customers.
Sadly, as the number of recalls climbs, it is nearly impossible to keep track of what is safe to sell and what isn't without help. Many online sellers and shop owners have told us that, before WeMakeItSafer's Simply Check tool, they spent hours every day checking products for recalls.
Simply Check makes checking items for recalls quick and easy. Because every item checked is issued a WeMakeItSafer Seal, sellers can show potential buyers that their items are safe. The Seals also enable resellers to pass along free safety monitoring for every item sold, quickly increasing customer loyalty.
If that were not enough, preliminary tests show that items listed with a WeMakeItSafer Seal sell at prices that are 4.6% higher than similar items without seals.
