What is WeMakeItSafer.com?
August 26, 2008 — By Jennifer P. ToneySince our site has not officially launched yet, I get this question a lot. WeMakeItSafer.com
is a startup that builds collaboration among consumers, manufacturers and
retailers around issues of product safety.
Through its shopping tools and monitoring services, WeMakeItSafer.com
protects consumers from unknowingly purchasing, using, selling or giving away
potentially harmful products, such as those that have been recalled. At the
same time, WeMakeItSafer.com creates opportunities for companies to protect
customers, improve product design, increase retention rates, and mitigate
damage in the event of a recall or safety concern.
I started WeMakeItSafer.com to address a social problem –
the huge number of product-related injuries and deaths occurring simply because
of a lack of information. Many consumers are unaware of basic safety information, and even well-informed
individuals are unaware of most product recalls. As a result, as many as 80% of potentially
dangerous recalled-products are never returned
or fixed.
In my quest for a solution, I found that certain
actions taken by companies during a recall not only increase the recall’s
effectiveness, but also improve the company’s financial performance. Taking these factors, which I will discuss in detail
in upcoming blogs, and combining them with modern technology, WeMakeItSafer.com
was born.
We are working hard to get WeMakeItSafer.com ready to share
with the world, something we are very anxious to do. If you would like an invitation to our beta
launch, please go to www.WeMakeItSafer.com to submit a request.
