Resolve to Address Safety Issues in 2009

Checklist

Why is it that, even when we know what tasks need to be done to keep ourselves and our families safe, we still cannot seem to find the time to do them?  Replace batteries in fire detectors, Gather emergency supplies, Learn CPR – these are just a few among the many items that seem to perpetually live on our mental checklist.  Perhaps it is human nature.  After all, to prepare ourselves for bad things to happen – like accidents, fires, floods and earthquakes – we must first imagine the bad things happening, or at least accept that they could happen, and that is no fun at all.

Of course, we all know that actually experiencing an emergency or injury is far worse than imagining it could ever be, and realizing in hindsight that it could have been prevented only adds to the nightmare. So this year, let us all resolve to clear off our Safety To-Do list… one step at a time.

I thought about publishing a complete checklist right now, at the beginning of the year, but speculating that the list would be quickly lost among the archives and forgotten about by February, I have decided to post one To-Do each week for the entire year.  Your goal will be to complete the task before the next post.  Email me when you have completed each To-Do. (jennifer [at] wemakeitsafer [dot] com) I’ll try to think of some sort of game or reward to keep us all focused.

Here we go.  Week number one…
