Do Your Purchases Meet Your Social, Environmental & Safety Standards?

If you are like me, you have, on more than one occasion, picked up a product in your home and thought, “What’s in this thing anyway?”  Or, “Who made this? Were the workers treated fairly?”  Animal lovers may also ask, “How was this product tested?”

A new tool by GoodGuide called “Purchase Analyzer” helps answer these questions.  After synching your online accounts at Amazon.com, Safeway and others, the Purchase Analyzer goes to work, mapping the products you own to social values like Ingredient Safety, Fair Trade and Animal Welfare.

Perhaps the most powerful aspect of the tool is the fact that it lets you pick the criteria against which to measure your purchases.  For example, if having organic ingredients is very important to you, selecting it in your Filter will generate Pass or Fail scores for your purchase decisions based on whether or not the product is certified organic.

For items that fail your personal Filter choices, the Purchase Analyzer makes recommendations for alternatives.  For those that pass, it offers “best price” information to help you find the best deals.

GoodGuide’s Purchase Analyzer covers thousands of food, personal care and household items, with more products being added every day.  Therefore, if you do not see results for all of your purchases immediately, be sure to check back often.
