Crib Recall Fact Sheet

Over the 5-year period from 2007 – 2011:

57 Crib Recalls were announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

9.9 million Cribs (aka “units”) were included in those recalls.

1,500 Incidents of product failure were reported before recalls were issued.

110 Injuries had been reported at the time of recall, across all crib recalls.

4 of those injuries were severe, and

14 of those injuries resulted in death.

 82% of the crib recalls cite entrapment as a hazard.

 75% of crib recalls cite strangulation or suffocation, and

 54% cite fall as the potential hazard(s).

  

Do you own a recalled crib?

In most cases, recall products have a simple fix or a refund available that will enable you to get a safe version of the product for free. Don’t take unnecessary risks; follow these simple steps to decrease the likelihood that you or someone in your family will be injured by a recalled crib.

Step 1. Make sure your crib has not already been recalled.

  • Browse images in the crib recall list, or
  • Enter your crib into a free, private Items I Own account and let the system check for you.

Step 2. Know if your crib is recalled in the future.

  • Items I Own will check for new recalls daily, and email you if there is a recall, or
  • Register your crib directly with the manufacturer.
