Which recalls do you cover?
At this time, WeMakeItSafer tracks information associated with US consumer product recalls as issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) from 1999 to the present. Upon request, certain data is available for recalls occurring between 1973 and 1998.
While our current reports focus on CPSC data, we soon will include U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall data in our recall reports. If you require FDA or NHTSA data, please contact us at Reports@WeMakeItSafer.com.
What information is included?
WeMakeItSafer has spent several years gathering, scrubbing and studying Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) product recall data to better understand product safety, corporate responsibility and financial impact trends across industries. We believe that WeMakeItSafer has the most complete and accurate U.S. product recall database in existence. There is almost nothing with regard to consumer product recalls that we have not considered - and now, we are making our knowledge available to you.
We have two types of reports - the Data Edition and the Full Report.. The Data Edition includes statistics, charts and graphs. The Full Report version includes the same information as the Data Edition as well as additional narrative analysis.
Every report includes the following:
- Summary of recall trends over the five-year period, including the number of recall announcements, overall product units and seasonal averages.
- Snapshot of what types of products were recalled most often and how those numbers change over time.
- Discussion and statistical review of recalled-product price points and the overall dollar value of products affected by recalls.
- Overview of the potential hazards (e.g.,lead poisoning, choking) that caused the recalls with an emphasis on how safety concerns have changed over time.
- A look at how the number of incidents, injuries, deaths, fires and property damage reported at the time of recall has increased or decreased over the period.
- Statistical analysis of product time-on-market and the lag-times before a recall is issued, and how those factors relate to the number and types of incidents reported.

Do you have industry-level data?
Yes. Our Overall Recall Report covers all recalls across a five year period and includes several summaries by product category. In addition, we offer detailed Product Category reports that break out information by subcategories. Hover on the question to see which subcategories are included in each of our six market-level reports:

Will you customize reports?
Yes. If you need specific information not summarized in our reports, we are happy to customize a report for you. Are you putting together a news story, research paper, or presentation?
