Keystone Cougar Recalls

There have been 12 recalls on Cougar vehicles in recent years. The latest, dated 2017-03-28 and published by the NHTSA on 2017-04-08, was due to a problem with the fuses and circuit breakers. Recall Summary: CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL AND TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH A TWO-DOOR REFRIGERATOR, MANUFACTURED BY THE DOMETIC CORPORATION, MAY HAVE A DEFECT IN CERTAIN TUBING IN THE REFRIGERATOR WHICH COULD ALLOW PRESSURIZED FLAMMABLE COOLANT SOLUTION TO BE RELEASED INTO AN AREA WHERE AN IGNITION SOURCE (GAS FLAME) IS PRESENT.
Hazard: THIS COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: KEYSTONE RV WILL BE WORKING WITH DOMETIC IN ORDER TO REPAIR THESE REFRIGERATORS (PLEASE SEE 06E076). DOMETIC WILL REPAIR THESE REFRIGERATORS BY INSTALLING A SECONDARY BURNER HOUSING AND THERMAL FUSES FREE OF CHARGE. DOMETIC HAS RETAINED STERICYCLE INC. TO MANAGE THIS CAMPAIGN. STERICYCLE WILL ASSIST YOU IN LOCATING DEALERSHIPS OR SERVICE CENTERS AND WILL PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH SCHEDULING OF APPOINTMENTS. Recall Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS. THERE IS A LACK OF A GROUND TO THE JUNCTION BOX LOCATED UNDER THE GOOSENECK AND ABOVE THE PIN BOX. THIS COULD RESULT IN A FAILURE TO ACTIVATE THE BRAKES IN THE EVENT THE FIFTH WHEEL BECOMES DISENGAGED FROM THE TOW VEHICLE.
Hazard: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE TRAILER BRAKES TO BE INOPERATIVE DURING A TRAILER BREAKAWAY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A GROUND WIRE BETWEEN THE JUNCTION BOX AND THE TRAILER FRAME.
Additional Info: OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 24, 2000.OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT KEYSTONE RV AT 1-219-642-4001.
